C4 and industry players back new UK indie
A raft of TV industry players and a Channel 4 fund have all backed Red Sky Productions, a new UK indie run by former UKTV commissioner Jane Rogerson and IWC exec producer Ross Harper.
The indie will be based in Glasgow, Scotland, and investors include former All3Media boss Steve Morrison, ITV exec David Liddiment, and Wall to Wall founder Alex Graham.
Glasgow City Council is also supporting the prodco, while Channel 4 has also invested through its creative diversity Alpha Fund.
Red Sky will make factual and fact-ent programming. It has brought on Sue Oriel, the former IWC exec and CEO of Firecracker Films , to run commercial and business affairs. She has been tasked with finding the new indie a distribution partner to support its international plans. Ros Homan has joined from the BBC to head up development.
As a commissioner at UKTV Rogerson (above left) greenlit shows including Dynamo: Magician Impossible and Red Dwarf X.
“As a true independent based in Scotland we’re able to drive towards our ambition to make stand out and entertaining factual content of the highest quality across the UK and internationally,” she said.
“We’re fortunate to have found a group of minority investors who can add stellar experience and expertise to our company.”
Harper’s credits include Robbie Coltrane’s Critical Evidence for A+E and Extreme Fishing With Robson Green. He said: “We’ve been delighted with the warm welcome that our commitment has received from broadcasters and we’re raring to go.”
