TRX preps 2017 roll out with 1,000 buyers
TRX will launch globally next year and have 20,000 hours of content and over 1,000 buyers by that point, company chairman David Frank has told TBI.
Former RDF and Zodiak boss Frank says the next-generation trading platform, which allows rights owners and buyers to transact online, is set for a full international rollout by mid-2017.
At that point there will be over 20,000 hours of content on the platform – there is about 10,000 today – and 1,000 registered buyers, which is, for example, about a quarter of the number who attend MIPTV.
The TRX team, recently bolstered by the addition of deputy CEO Juliette Squair, were at MIPCOM last week, and the service has launched in live beta mode in several Asian and CEE territories, with distribution partners including All3Media International, Hat Trick International, Sky Vision and Sesame Workshop.
The next step a full global launch after almost two years of developing and refining the core platform.
Sky and Channel 4 backed TRX in its latest funding round and Frank says the service is now fully funded through to 2018.
He estimates breakeven as soon as 2018.
A number of other digital marketplaces have launched recently, including indie film-focused BidSlate, which was at MIPCOM last week.
TRX has also recently pushed into film, with Nadine Nohr overseeing the move.
