Showtime cable net cuts landmark Spanish deal
Movistar will be the exclusive Spanish home of Showtime series after the pay TV platform inked an exclusive deal with the US cable net.
Showtime, which is owned by CBS, has similar agreements in place with Sky in the UK, Bell Media in Canada and Stan in Australia.
The Spanish deal means shows including Billions (pictured), upcoming Jim Carey comedy drama I’m Dying Up Here and the Twin Peaks reboot will all be exclusively on Movistar.
The pay TV platform will also have the SVOD rights to the Showtime programming, alongside linear.
Pedro García Guillén, CEO of Movistar+ said: “Now, we are able to build on our existing Showtime programming with future Showtime-owned series.
“We are very proud to have closed such an important deal with a brand that has proven its ability to create shows of enormous value and appeal to our Movistar Series clients.”
“Showtime is quickly becoming one of the most prestigious content brands in the global marketplace,” said Armando Nuñez, president and CEO, CBS Studios International, the global sales arm of CBS Corp.
“We’re excited to further expand the reach of Showtime with another branded programming agreement of this scale and with a best in class partner such as Movistar+.”
Showtime staples such as Ray Donovan, House of Lies, Californication and Dexter will also all exclusively sit on Movistar as part of the deal. Library shows including Deadwood and the original Twin Peaks are also included.
