Fox News chief reportedly set for exit
Longstanding Fox News boss Roger Ailes will leave the news channel as soon as this week, according to US reports.
New York Magazine, citing multiple unnamed sources, reported that Lachlan and James Murdoch and their father Rupert Murdoch all broadly agree Ailes must go in the wake of a US law firm’s report into alleged sexual harassment by the Fox News boss.
New York reports that James Murdoch thinks Ailes should resign or be sacked, with his co-21st Century Fox CEO and chairman Lachlan Murdoch more minded to wait until the ongoing Republican Party convention is over before taking action.
A legal firm is investigating Ailes’ behaviour in the wake of a lawsuit filed against him by former employee and presenter Gretchen Carson.
Ailes denies the claims and says Carson’s motivation stems from her having her Fox News show cancelled in the wake of poor viewing figures.
Fox News issued a statement to NBC News that read: “This matter is not yet resolved and the review is not concluded.”
