Ex-SPT exec named Endemol Shine Studios boss

The changes at Endemol Shine Studios continue, with former Sony Pictures Television and Alcon Television Group scripted executive Sharon Hall named president.

Hall will oversee Endemol Shine Group’s US studio, with executive VP Jeremy Gold now reporting into her.

Gold had been overseeing the studio with Carolyn Bernstein following the departure of Philippe Maigret last summer. However, Bernstein was recently installed as executive VP, head of global scripted development and production at National Geographic’s new-look channels group.

Endemol Shine Studios’ slate currently includes 19 series in development across 12 networks, including the US remake of UK thriller drama Utopia for premium cable channel HBO and Showtime’s upcoming Jim Carrey-penned comedy I’m Dying Up Here. It is also behind AMC’s Hell on Wheels, DirecTV’s Kingdom.

Hall was most recently president of Alcon TV Group, where she created the company’s television business in 2012. Before that, she worked at SPT as executive VP and head of drama, where she helped develop US series such as Masters of Sex, Breaking Bad and Damages. She also worked as The Pretender prodco MTM Television and BBDO Worldwide.

Her appointment closely follows the promotion of Endemol Shine North America co-chairmen and CEOs Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin, who now also oversee the 21^st Century Fox- and Apollo Global Management-owned firm’s business across the Americas.

“Sharon has helped conceive and develop many of the top dramas of the last decade and brings a great deal of experience and deep relationships with writers, producers and actors alike,” said Corwin and Abrego.

Former studios chief Maigret, who launched the division with Gold in 2011, is now running ITV Studios America’s scripted business under new regional chief Brent Montgomery.
