Abrego, Corwin take on Lat Am at Endemol Shine
Endemol Shine North America’s co-CEO and chairmen Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin have widened their roles by taking on oversight of Latin America.
They have been named co-chairmen of Endemol Shine Americas, which oversees all Latin American operations, as they renew their current deals.
The pair are based in LA, reporting directly to London-based Endemol Shine Group CEO Sophie Turner Laing. Endemol Shine NA’s assets include Endemol Shine Studios, Endemol Beyond USA and a stack of production companies.
Recent sales include a straight-to-series deal with CBS for format Hunted, new Jim Carrey comedy I’m Dying Up Here for Showtime and the second Pitbull’s New Year Revolution for Fox.
Endemol Shine Latino, meanwhile, has just launched the US’s first Spanish-language version of Big Brother, which is titled Gran Hermano and is for Telemundo, and is lining up its first scripted effort, El Vato, which will go out on NBCUniverso.
“Alongside strong ratings and new pickups in scripted, non-scripted and digital, Charlie and Cris’s first year leading Endemol Shine North America as a combined business has seen significant success in the US Hispanic market and Mexico,” said Turner Laing.
“This creates a solid foundation for greater collaboration throughout the Americas under their guidance and having them in these expanded roles will help further leverage our strengths across these key markets.”
Abrego (above) and Corwin (right) have been leading Endemol Shine’s US operations since October 2014, around the time Endemol and Shine Group merged.
Abrego joined Endemol when the production giant acquired his 51 Minds prodco in 2008, while Corwin’s Original Media became part of Endemol a year prior.
They became the bosses of Endemol North America in October 2013, replacing David Goldberg, who is now running Banijay Studios North America.
Their appointment comes after the departure of Endemol Shine president Tim Hincks was announced last week.
