Sky opens up movie store to non-subs
Pay TV operator Sky has opened its download-to-own movie service to all consumers in the UK and Ireland. Previously, only Sky subs could access the store, but it has now opened to everyone, meaning all consumers can now download films to connected devices.
Non-Sky subs can access films on their TV via the service Now TV, Roku or YouView settop box. Sky has also launched a new Sky Store app to allow easier downloads and streaming to mobile devices.
Nicola Bamford, Director of Sky Store said: “People want the simplest and most convenient way to buy and watch the movies they love, which is why it’s great news that from today Buy & Keep will be available to everyone and across multiple devices. Sky Store offers the complete service – straight to your TV, across your devices and you get the DVD in the post too”.
Titles currently available on the Store include The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Paddington. Most Buy & Keep movies are also available in a pre-DVD release window. New releases are £13.99 (US$20.77) and library titles £7.99.
Sky said it plans to add TV series boxsets in the future.
