Amazon rebooting 70s kids show
Amazon is making a modern-day version of 1970s live-action kids series Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.
Amazon Studios will produce and pilot a new version on its Prime Instant Video streaming service.
Amazon has struck a development deal with the creators of the original, veteran producers, Sid and Marty Krofft, who will help reimagine it for modern audience.
The reboot is the latest in a line in the kids content world, with Thunderbirds, Inspector Gadget, The Wombles and Clangers all getting remade. Sigmund and the Sea Monsters marks the first time Amazon has remade a kids show.
The Krofft-produced original version of the series went on US broadcast net NBC in 1974.
“Sid and Marty are geniuses and we are honored to be working with them to bring to the world a return of what we believe is TV’s most fabulous and funniest sea creature ever,” said Roy Price, vice president, Amazon Studios.
Marty Krofft added: “Boy, are we lucky to recreate Sigmund and the Sea Monsters with Roy Price and Tara Sorensen at Amazon Studios.”
