All3’s Objective invests in drama prodco
All3Media-owned UK prodco Objective Productions has set up an umbrella deal with fledgling drama and documentary indie Vox Pictures.
The deal will see Vox relocate to Objective’s County Hall, London base, and receive back-end support, financial advice and distribution, with Objective taking a minority stake in future Vox projects.
Vox will remain an independent company within the Discovery Communications- and Liberty Global-owned All3 prodco.
Pip Broughton and Adrian Bate founded Vox last year, and it is currently working on post-production of feature film Just Jim. However, the company has also positioned itself as a writing development ground for broadcasters.
Broughton launched Vox after spending four years working on Sky Arts’ Playhouse drama block, while Bate has produced various shows for British broadcasters and was previously head of the film and television division of now-defunct UK-based indie production group Zenith Entertainment.
Objective has a long-established scripted wing, and is currently in pre-production on the fourth season of Channel 4 comedy Fresh Meat (pictured).
“Adrian, Pip and the team have impressive credentials and their work will be a welcome addition to Objective’s roster,” said Objective commercial and finance director Stuart Duthie. “It’s an exciting new venture and we look forward to using our expertise to help them grow their business over the coming years.”
Objective counts Channel 4 comedies such as Peep Show and Toast of London and unscripted series shows such as The Cube and Beat the Brain among its credits. Founded in 1991, Objective remained independent until All3 swooped in 2007 in a deal that was rumoured to have cost up to £50 million (US$75.2 million).
