Virgin territory for Shomi
Canadian on-demand service Shomi has acquired exclusive local SVOD rights to The CW’s Hispanic US-themed comedy Jane the Virgin and CBS drama Madam Secretary.
The deal will distributor CBS Studios International also includes exclusive Canadian rights for the NCIS franchise, which comprises NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and new season series NCIS: New Orleans, plusReckless, Hawaii Five-O, Elementary, Star Crossed, Under the Dome and Extant.
Furthermore, Californication will be available in its entirety as a SVOD product for the first time, and classic shows such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: The Original Series and Twilight Zone are also included in the agreement.
“Great TV is now in session as Shomi builds on bigger and better with this deal with CBS,” said Marni Shulman, Shomi’s head of content and programming. “From the good ol’ faithfuls you want to watch over and over again to today’s hottest titles, we give entertainment lovers from coast-to-coast more great content every day.”
Shomi became available in beta to internet customers of Canadian media rivals Shaw and Rogers, who jointly run the service, on November 4. The pair said carriage conversations with other cable and satellite providers continue.
