Nutopia’s The Story of Us getting Aussie remake
Factual producer and distributor Nutopia has shopped the format of its docudrama The Story of Us to Seven Network.
The Australian free-to-air broadcaster will air a local version of the show.
Local indie Essential Media & Entertainment, the producer of legal series Rake, will make the Australian version of the series, which is scheduled to go out in 2015.
The show will, like its US and UK (The British) forbears, use drama reconstruction, CGI and high-level interviews to build a picture of Australia past and present.
Jane Root’s prodco Nutopia said that, working with A&E, it is currently in discussion about the format in Canada, France, Saudi Arabia and China.
There is also a global version of the format Mankind The Story of All Of Us that has gone out ion over 30 territories.
Jane Root, founder and chief executive, Nutopia said “It’s really exciting to be able to bring to life the incredible story of Australia – and we’re looking forward to seeing the format tell the story of other great nations around the world.”
Chris Hilton, CEO of Essential Media said “we’re very excited to be able combine our experience in both drama and historical documentary to take Jane’s proven and popular mega-doc formula to a broad Australian audience.”
