HBO promotes pair post-Naegle departure

Premium cable channel HBO has promoted a pair of executives to heightened programming roles following the departure of Sue Naegle.

Casey Bloys (below) and Michael Ellenberg (left) are both now executive VP, programming and will report directly to programming president Michael Lombardo.

This comes after HBO’s president, entertainment, Naegle, decided to leave the company after a successful five year run reportedly to launch her own production indie.

Bloys has lead HBO’s comedy efforts since 2006, most recently as senior VP, HBO Entertainment, and oversaw development of shows such as Girls and Veep. In the new role, he will continue to oversee the development and production of all comedy series.

Ellenberg joined HBO from Scott Free Productions in 2011 where he worked on films such as Prometheus. Since joining the Time Warner-owned channel, he has overseen established series such as Treme, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire and developed a pair of upcoming shows, True Detective and The Leftovers, both of which premiere next year.

He will continue to oversee HBO’s drama efforts in his new role.
