Comic books firm IDW moves into TV with V-Wars

david_OzerComic book publisher IDW has created a new TV division and agreed a deal with talent agency-come-producer, and The Walking Dead exec producers, Circle of Confusion.

IDW has brought on industry veteran and former Sonar, Starz and DIC executive David Ozer (pictured) to run the new IDW Entertainment unit.

The publisher said that it will focus on financing, developing and producing straight-to-series projects for the US networks, but that have international appeal.

Circle of Confusion will oversee packaging and creative development of the division and will executive produce the company’s projects with Rick Jacobs overseeing these efforts.

The first three projects have been announced and IDW said it is already talking to a US network about V-Wars, the comic book that was edited by bestselling author Jonathan Maberry (Ghost Road Blues). It follows the Vampire War and the human race’s battle with vampire terror cells.

Life Undead is also in development. Chris Pollack is attached and Paul Zbyszewski who wrote the comic book and was a writer on Lost and S.H.I.E.L.D. It follows a New Orleans detective who gets turned into a zombie while investigating a Haitian drug cartel.

The other show is Brooklyn Animal Control, based on the 2013 comic book from writer/director J.T. Petty (Splinter Cell) and artist Stephen Thompson (Star Trek: New Frontier). The story follows clans of werewolves that have been integrated into modern day American society.

IDW, which is repped by the CAA agency, also has a slate of movie projects including Lore, which is in development at Warner Bros. and World War Robot at Disney with Jerry Bruckheimer on production duty.

Ozer said: “Given the Company’s growth and subsequent financial success, investing in the development and production of its projects into television programming is the next logical and strategic step in growing IDW’s media empire, and further solidifies IDW as a key player in both the theatrical and television entertainment arena.”
