Amazon re-ups Dome as global ratings boom
The Amazon Prime Instant Video platform has renewed the high rating CBS drama Under the Dome.
The on-demand platform already runs season one of the Amblin Television show, which is the highest rated US series this summer, as its exclusive US online home, and will get the upcoming season two under terms of the new agreement with CBS.
Episodes will launch on the platform across multiple devices four days after their broadcast debuts. The news season launches in 2014.
The news comes as CBS Studios International trumpets the shows ratings around the world and ahead of the season on finale on September.
Citing Nielsen ratings, CBSSI noted it had taken an average 14.9 million viewers in the US and that more than 53.4 million viewers watched the show overall.
Internationally, CBBSI cited local ratings sources that reveal it has become the number one show on Canadian television on Global since launch; the highest rated US drama on Australia’s Network Ten; and that it delivered the best international series premiere in Antena 3’s history in Spain and is the top rating international series in the territory on free TV for the past three years.
In the UK, it has become terrestrial Channel 5’s top series since launch, while in Germany, it delivered ProSieben’s best premiere ratings in its time slot since 2000. It is also the most-watched US series on Austria’s ORF eins since 2007 and is the third and fourth most-watched programme in Italy on RAI 2 and Prime in New Zealand, respectively.
Overall, the show about a community mysteriously trapped under a see-through dome has been licensed into more than 200 territories around the world.
