Robert de Niro attached to James Patterson TV adaptation
Robert de Niro is executive producing a television remake of James Patterson’s best-selling book series Private.
De Niro’s TriBeCa Productions is attached to the series, which Sonar Entertainment and James Patterson Entertainment unveiled yesterday.
The Hollywood actor will executive-produce the 13x60mins show, also titled Private, along with TriBeCa partner Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh. Prolific author Patterson also executive produces, as does James Patterson Entertainment’s Leopoldo Gout. Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer, Runner Runner) directs.
Private is based on Patterson’s best selling book series about former CIA agent Jack Morgan, who runs an elite investigations firm. Screenwriter John McLaughlin (Black Swan) has written the initial two-part pilot and will write future episodes.
He, Furman, TRiBeCa and Patterson are all repped by Creative Artists Agency. Furman is also represented by Atlas Entertainment.
In total, Patterson’s 113 books have grossed more than US$3 billion in worldwide sales.
De Niro, best known for feature films such as Goodfellas, The Godfather, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, co-founded Tribeca with producer Rosenthal in 1989. The pair are among the co-founders of the Tribeca Film Festival.
TriBeCa’s upcoming TV projects include NBC’s remake of UK movie About a Boy, to which Friday Night Lights’ Jason Katims is attached. It previously produced CBS cop drama NYC-22.
