Channel 4 orders Draw Something gameshow from Sony
Channel 4 has ordered Draw It!, a gameshow based on the hugely successful Draw Something app.
Ryan Seacrest’s production company and Sony Pictures Television-backed Embassy Row created the show with Zynga, which makes the original app. It is still in development at US network CBS.
The UK version will be made by SPT-backed UK production company Victory. SPT sells the format internationally.
Victory’s deal with UK free-to-air broadcaster Channel 4 for the show marks the first time it has gone to series anywhere.
The format involves two teams, each comprising one contestant and one celebrity, competing over three rounds of drawing challenges. The winning contestant joins forces with both celebrities in the final round in an effort to win a cash prize. If the cash is not claimed it rolls over to the next show.
Victoria Ashbourne, MD of Victory Television said: “We’re very excited to work with Channel 4 to produce a brand new show inspired by one of the biggest hits in app history to date. There’s a creative side to everyone, sometimes more obvious than others, and the show will really tap into that with a race against the clock and plenty of humour.”
