A+E takes control of Asian channels JV
A+E Networks will have full control of its Asian channels operation AETN All Asia Networks after reworking a joint venture agreement with pay TV operator Astro. The pair created the JV in 2007 but the new structure will see Astro exit the partnership.
The change to the joint venture come as A+E prepares to launch its female-skewing network Lifetime in the region.
A+E said its bouquet of channels will still have carriage on Astro’s pay TV platform in Malaysia and that the pair will join forces on a regional production partnership designed to spur the creation of original content in South East Asia.
AETN All Asia Networks’ management team will report to Alan Hodges, managing director, Asia-Pacific for A+E Networks.
“We view Asia as critically important for our international growth, and assuming full ownership of AETN All Asia Networks is a big step,” said Sean Cohan, executive VP, International for A+E Networks. “This new structure will allow us to expand our brand portfolio and grow distribution throughout the region.”
The AETN All Asia Networks’ bouquet currently comprises History, History HD, Crime & Investigation Network, and Bio.
