Sony inks formats deals and first look with Israeli producer
The BBC has ordered a second season of Sony Pictures Television’s Breakaway and SPT has shopped a local version of the gameshow format to Al Hayat, Egypt’s largest broadcaster.
The Egyptian version will be made by SPT Arabia, the production hub the studio established in late 2010 and run by Ziad Kebbi.
Separately, SPT said that it has inked a first-look deal with Shy Barmeli, the creator of Raid the Cage, which the studio will launch internationally at MIPCOM.
The format has been acquired by SPT. In Israel it is being made by United Studios for free-to-air broadcaster Reshet.
In Raid the Cage contestants answer trivia questions to win time in a cage filled with prizes – that they must then get out of the cage against the clock.
Speaking about the format, SPT chief creative officer Wayne Garvie told TBI: “If you look at what gameshows are doing at the moment physicality is back in and this has a proper trivia element too. It could work for a US broadcaster, or I could see it in Italy or South America.”
