Cheryl Taylor named CBBC controller
BBC comedy commissioner Cheryl Taylor has been appointed as controller of British kids broadcaster CBBC.
Taylor, who was previously controller for comedy commissioning at the British public broadcaster, will be in charge of the output of the kids channel, which targets six to twelve year olds.
She replaces Damian Kavanagh’s who left for Channel 4 earlier this year.
Taylor commissioned hit comedies including Miranda, Outnumbered, Rev, Twenty Twelve and White Van Man. Before joining the BBC, she was head of comedy at Hat Trick Productions. She will continue to be based in Salford, where she was the first genre controller to be located outside of London.
BBC Children’s director Joe Godwin said: “I’m delighted to be able to welcome Cheryl to the Department. She brings so much commissioning and production experience, in the BBC and the indie sector, to the CBBC role – one of the most exciting and important commissioning roles in children’s media.”
