Sky’s HBO-programmed channel launching in Germany

Sky Deutschland will launch a local version of drama network Sky Atlantic HD in May. In the UK BSkyB has an output deal with HBO and transmits that content Sky Atlantic, the channel that launched last February.

Now, Sky Deutschland, which like its UK compatriot is backed by News Corp, has also signed an output deal with HBO that will see the latest series of hit dramas including Boardwalk Empire and season two of Game of Thrones aired on the German version of the channel.

These will be seen alongside older titles including The Sopranos, Entourage and The Wire, which will be made available to Sky’s German and Austrian customers.

Sky Atlantic HD will be available exclusively on Sky’s DTH platform and via its online services Sky Anytime and Sky Go. Sky is yet to announce the price of the channel.

The launch marks a milestone in Germany and Austria. Sky customers will be the first to see the amazing selection of HBO series and in brilliant HD quality. “
