Netflix ramps up anime, Korean & Indian drama via Tudum event

Netflix has unveiled new international content during its annual Tudum event, including dramas from Korea and India, as well as slew of anime shows.

South Korea’s Studio Mir (Legend Of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender) will produce an anime adaptation of Korean webtoon Lookism, which will debut on 4 November. Lookism tells the story of a teenager who wakes up one day with a handsome face and perfect body.

An anime adaptation of Baku Yumemakura’s supernatural historical series Onmyoji will also be released in 2023, while Moonrise, an original sci-fi property from Tou Ubukata and Hiromu Arakawa is headed to Netflix in 2024.

Other upcoming anime includes, My Daemon, from writer Hirotaka Adachi, and an adaptation of the video game Onimusha, in collaboration with Capcom.

Outside of Japan, a second season of Korean horror drama Hellbound was announced, with a short teaser previewing the show renewal at Tudum.

Meanwhile, the streamer announced Class, a new Indian adaptation of the Spanish series Elite. Set at New Delhi’s upscale Hampton International, sparks fly when three new students from a starkly different background challenge the existing dynamics at this elite enclave.

This remake is produced by Bodhitree Multimedia, in association with Future East. It is directed by Ashim Ahluwalia and stars Gurfateh Pirzada, Anjali Sivaraman and Ayesha Kanga.

“We have grown our young adult series slate with much loved series such as Kota Factory and Mismatched, and Class will further strengthen this line-up,” commented Tanya Bami, series head, Netflix India.

Other Indian series showcased at the event included Scoop, the new series from director Hansal Mehta, inspired by the biography of journalist and crime reporter Jigna Vora, based on her experiences of being accused of the murder of another reporter.

Comedy Kathal stars Sanya Malhotra as a police officer investigator on the case of missing jackfruit, while Guns & Gulaabs, from the creative team of Raj & DK, is a crime thriller set in the 1990s.
