Amazon streamer Prime Video has ordered Beast Games, a reality competition series from YouTube star MrBeast.

Produced with Amazon MGM Studios and based on his YouTube show of the same name, MrBeast will host and executive produce the series.

Details of the specific challenges have yet to be revealed, but Amazon said the show will see 1,000 contestants competing for a record-breaking $5m cash prize – the biggest payout in TV history.

The commission follows reports in January that MrBeast and Amazon were nearing a deal valued at $100m to create a reality show for streamer Prime Video.

The online content creator (real name James Donaldson), who has 233 million subscribers on YouTube, is known for viral videos in which he creates elaborate challenges offering large cash prizes.

MrBeast’s most successful video was inspired by the Netflix series Squid Game, with challenges based on the show that netted one winner almost half a million dollars.

“MrBeast has captured the attention and imagination of fans of all ages, from all walks of life, and all over the world,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios. “We are excited to work with Jimmy and his talented team to bring his brilliant, high production, and stakes-raising concepts to Beast Games for our global customers to experience.”

“My goal is to make the greatest show possible and prove YouTubers and creators can succeed on other platforms,” said MrBeast, “Amazon gave me the creative control I need to try and make it happen. I hope to make the YouTube community proud.”
