Netflix unveils 12 Nordic originals incl first period drama & Jo Nesbø series
Netflix is adding 12 new originals to its Nordic slate, with its first period drama from the region and a series written by Jo Nesbø on the slate.
The New Force is from Swedish prodco Art & Bob and is set in 1958, with the show tracking the country’s first female police officers as they start patrolling the streets of Stockholm, but find their biggest problem isn’t the criminals but the resistance they face from colleagues and their own families.
Josefin Asplund, Agnes Rase and Malin Persson star, with Patrik Ehrnst named head writer alongside Elin Randin and Antonia Pyk.
The show, which was unveiled in Stockholm today, is joined by Nesbø’s Norwegian series Harry Hole, as well as a series adaption of Amanda Romare’s novel Diary Of A Ditched Girl.
Harry Hole (working title) is being produced by Working Title and tracks the detective as he attempts to secure justice for the murderer of a colleague by a corrupt cop.
The story is based on Nesbø’s The Devil’s Star and has Øystein Karlsen (So Long Marianne) attached as director.
Other TV shows on the slate include Jarowskij’s Swedish drama Diary Of A Ditched Girl, which is based on Romare’s novel Halva Malmö and follows a woman looking for love, as well as returning series of Barracuda Queen and a standalone sequel to The Chestnut Man. SAM productions is attached.
Netflix’s Nordic reality & movies slate
Other shows returning include a second season of reality show Love Is Blind: Sweden from Mastiff, as well as movie The Key Series, which is based on Alex Ahndoril’s series.
Other movies include Little Siberia from Finland, parenting feature Maybe Baby 2 from Denmark and The Swedish Connection, which exploress the true story of World War Two hero Gösta Engzell.
Danish film The Right Track and Je M’appelle Agneta from Sweden have also been confirmed by the streamer.
