Netflix lands Mike Tyson & Jake Paul boxing fight rights
Netflix is moving deeper into live sports by striking a deal to stream a boxing match between Mike Tyson and YouTube star Jake Paul.
The fight, which will be live streamed globally by Netflix, takes place Saturday, 20 July 20 at the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
“Mike Tyson is one of the biggest icons in boxing history and Jake Paul is one of the biggest disruptors in boxing history,” said Gabe Spitzer, VP of nonfiction sports at Netflix, which struck the deal via Most Valuable Promotions.
Netflix has been experimenting with live sports over the past six months, launching celebrity golfing event The Netflix Cup last year to attract viewers of its shows Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing.
However, its biggest bet by far came in January when the streamer struck a reported $5bn pact with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
The deal begins January 2025 and will see the streamer gaining exclusive rights to WWE’s Raw show in North America, the UK and Latin America, among other territories, with additional countries and regions to be added later.
