Former Blue Ant Media execs Solange Attwood and Asha Daniere have launched Serial Maven Studios, an “internationally-focused, next generation studio business” based in Toronto, Canada.

The company is focused on exploring new models for the development, financing, production, distribution, and monetisation of original unscripted IP.

Attwood will serve as CEO of the new company, while Daniere becomes president. The business will partner with talent and creative producers, using a “customised 360 approach” to access co-financing, co-production and commissioning opportunities.

The execs aim to deliver high quality programming and high returns on investment, accessing financing from a “globally diversified marketplace.”

“We’re thrilled to launch Serial Maven Studios as a next generation studio using creative business models that enable us to build value and provide content solutions for our partners,” said Attwood.

“With a focus on discoverable and high quality programming, we are looking forward to sharing our slate from our partners with our global network.”

Attwood stepped down as EVP of Blue Ant International, the sales arm of Canada’s Blue Ant Media, in September 2023, after almost a decade with the company.

During her tenure, she oversaw the strategic direction of Blue Ant Media’s worldwide distribution arm. She spearheaded and managed co-productions for the sales division, pre-sales and worldwide sales activities while leading the business’ ongoing expansion and sales offices in Toronto (Canada), London (UK), and Los Angeles (USA).

Under her leadership, the division built a slate of 3,500 hours of award-winning content across its tent-pole categories: Factual Entertainment, Kids & Family, Specialist Factual, Scripted & Digital Studios and High Impact Documentaries, including titles such as scripted live-action series Detention Adventure, documentaries such as Prince Charles’ Green Grand Design and The Ocean’s Greatest Feast and long running franchise See No Evil.

Prior to that, she served as VP of international sales and development at Si Entertainment, where she headed up the development and launch of the company’s distribution arm, spent four years as manager of acquisitions and international sales at Tricon Films & Television.

Daniere, meanwhile, is a seasoned media executive and corporate lawyer who spent eight years at Blue Ant, from 2012 to 2020. She holds several board-level positions, including as lead director of Reginald The Vampire prodco Thunderbird Entertainment. She holds significant experience leading mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financing, corporate governance and transformational transactions for a range of global companies.
