China’s Tencent & Coolabi Productions to develop ‘Warrior Cats’ animation

China’s Tencent Video has struck a deal with Coolabi Productions to develop the Warrior Cats book series for TV and film.

The feline fantasy books, created by Coolabi’s Working Partners, are written by Erin Hunter and tracks clans of wild cats.

Tencent and Coolabi will work with the original characters and storylines to create animated adaptations, marking the first authorised animation of the novels.

More than 70 million Warrior Cats books have been sold, translated into 38 languages, while the brand claimed half a billion views via user generated content on YouTube in 2023 and almost two billion views on TikTok. The brand has also been adapted for Roblox.
