RTL+, the VOD service of German broadcaster RTL, is launching a local adaptation of the Nippon TV gameshow format Silent Library this week.

Produced by Tresor TV, the 8 x 15-minute series will debut on 18 January, featuring reality personalities David Helmut, Lena Meckel, Cosimo Citiolo, Christina Dimitriou, Kate Merlan as well as TikTok stars Maria Ziffy, Rick Azas and Clemens Brock.

In the German adaptation, a team of five people tackle tasks that are fast, funny, nasty and vary from episode to episode. Some teams test their speed, strength, or dexterity, while others struggle with icky or painful tasks. Anyone who makes noises, laughs, or screams and exceeds the noise level, loses.

Launching on Nippon TV in 2001, the format has since rolled out as an international format and local versions of Silent Library have been created in more than 20 countries around the world, including on MTV in the US, as well as the UK, Spain, Netherland and France.

“Silent Library is one of the global hit formats, that everybody in the industry knows. Being able to bring a ‘classic hit’ like this on the screen, is making us proud and happy,” said Quote Axel Kuehn, MD at Tresor TV.
