2024 is set to be a pivotal year for the global content industry, so TBI has enlisted some of the biggest names in the business to share their thoughts on the major trends of the next 12 months and how they’re going to capitalise on them.

Here, Amelia Brown, CEO of Fremantle UK, talks the value of mixing returning formats and IP with seeking new opportunities and partnerships.

What is the biggest growth area for your company this year?

Trusted IP is still very much at the forefront of the business as buyers still look to known brands and reliable shows in a turbulent time. Saying that, we are launching a huge new reality show for NBC and have another new reality title in production, so we are still seeing a real appetite for this genre and where the opportunity for IP is strongest.

What is the key trend going to be in 2024?

I think known brands will continue to rise to the top in 2024 alongside a lot of continued consolidation across the industry. Our returning format’s such as The Apprentice, Britain’s Got Talent and Too Hot Too Handle show how viewers are still drawn to what they know. I think the idea of taking scripted IP and turning it into unscripted opportunities is something we will all be talking about a lot.

What is your New Year’s resolution and why?

To make sure Fremantle continues to have the very best people working with us – we want to be the home for the very best. We also want to continue to seek opportunity in every situation and not simply do what we have always done. Now is a time to pivot slightly and find new partnerships in order to make the very best content.

What will be the biggest headline (not involving your own company) in 2024 and why?

There will be new and unexpected partnerships forming in order to make the best content for the best value.

What show are you most looking forward to in 2024?

I am a sucker for Bridgerton so I’m very excited for season three but also, as a total contrast, the idea of Jodie Foster in the next True Detective is too delicious to miss.
