‘Succession’, ‘The Bear’ & ‘Beef’ dominate at the Golden Globes

HBO drama Succession was the biggest TV winner of the night at the Golden Globes, picking up four awards, including Best Television Series – Drama.

The Jesse Armstrong-created series, which concluded with its fourth season last year, centered on the Roy family, led by media tycoon Logan Roy, and his children’s fight to be named successor of their father’s company in light of his ailing health.

Stars Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin were awarded Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama, respectively.

Matthew Macfadyen, meanwhile, was awarded for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role On Television for his role in Succession.

The HBO series faced close competition from Hulu show The Bear and Netflix’s Beef, with both titles each taking home three Golden Globes.

The FX-produced comedy-drama The Bear, which follows a young award-winning chef who returns to his hometown to manage his dead brother’s sandwich shop, was named Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

Lead star Jeremy Allen White took home Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, while Ayo Edebiri won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for her role on The Bear.

Beef, meanwhile, was named Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made For Television. Stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, whose characters’ road rage incident escalates into a long-running feud, took home Best Performance by a Male and Female Actor, respectively, in the category.

Other winners this year included, Elizabeth Debicki for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role On Television for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Netflix series The Crown, while Ricky Gervais won Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy On Television for his special Ricky Gervais: Armageddon.
