Roberto Stopello has stepped down as Netflix’s VP of series for Latin America after five years at the global streaming giant.

It is understood that Stopello is leaving his Mexico City-based role to return to the US for family reasons and will continue to work with Netflix as head writer or showrunner on future series projects.

Stopello is the creator of Spanish-language show La Reina Del Sur (The Queen Of The South), which was created for Telemundo in 2011 and which Netflix boarded for its second season in 2019, which was followed by season three in 2022.

Original series released during his time at the streamer include Madre Solo Hay Do (Daughter From Another Mother), Quién Mató A Sara? (Who Killed Sarah?) and Pálpito (The Marked Heart).

Prior to Netflix, Stopello served a 15-year stint at Telemundo in a variety of positions, including as VP of content development from 2009 to 2015.
