Canal+ in France is preparing to premiere a new documentary about fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Révélation will debut in January and uses access to archives from his relatives and collaborators to explore the designer’s career.

The 4 x 45-minute series is being produced by France’s KM and delves into his origins and family history, much of which he kept hidden all his life.

Executive producers are Guillaume Perez and Anne Solen Douguet, with Aurélia Rouvier and Stéphane Bohée also attached.

Lagerfeld died in 2019, since when a series of shows have sought to explore the designer’s life, including the BBC’s The Mysterious Mr Lagerfeld, Karl Lagerfeld: Kaiser of Fashion and Disney+ drama Kaiser Karl.

KM was founded in 1994 by Renaud Le Van Kim and is now led by Antoine Baldassari. It was originally known for producing French daily talk show, Le Grand Journal, on Canal+, but is now behind series including Arte’s 28 Minutes and docs such as Carlos Le Chacal.

Parent Banijay has also been expanding its doc push with titles such as Front Row and Four Kings (w/t) in the works.
