Stanley Tucci is heading back to Italy with National Geographic, which has ordered a new 10-part docuseries, Tucci – The Heart Of Italy (working title), following the actor on a culinary journey trough the country.

The series is being produced by BBC Studios’, Specialist Factual Productions, alongside Tucci’s own Salt Productions, with production to begin in January 2024.

The commission follows the cancellation of Tucci’s somewhat similar CNN series Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy a year ago, with the Emmy-winning show falling victim to Warner Bros. Discovery cost-cutting measures.

Tucci – The Heart Of Italy sees the actor venture off the beaten track in the country to meet fascinating people from all walks of life who will share their stories and the extraordinary dishes that make Italian food such a beloved cuisine.

Along the way, he meets professional chefs, amateur cooks, farmers and fishermen, winemakers and brewers, and fellow eaters who all share his passion for food and who inspire him.

From its unique geology and changing climate to its history, politics and modern multiculturalism, Tucci also learns about Italy on multiple levels.

“National Geographic is all about adventure and exploration, and I am honored to take viewers once again to explore Italy through the lens of food,” said Tucci. “In Italy’s many distinct regions there is always something new to discover and I’m more than excited to begin the process in partnership with BBC Studios.”

Tucci and Lottie Birmingham are executive producing for Salt Productions, alongside For Alan Holland and Amanda Lyon for BBC Studios, and Ben Jessop is showrunner.
