Canadian producer-distributor Cineflix Media has appointed former Thunderbird Entertainment president Mark Miller to head up its newly launched Vancouver office.

Cineflix Studios Vancouver will focus on producing and co-producing scripted series, movies, and factual content for North American and international streamers and broadcasters.

Miller will run the new company as president, reporting into Cineflix Media co-founder and CEO, Glen Salzman.

The exec stepped down from his dual role as president of Thunderbird and CEO of Great Pacific Media in late 2020 to focus “100% on creative”, he told TBI at the time.

During his tenure, he executive produced comedy Kim’s Convenience for CBC and Netflix, alongside producing long-running factual brands such as Heavy Rescue: 401 and developing Deadman’s Curse, as well as creating the Highway Thru Hell franchise.

Miller was also instrumental in acquiring the rights to produce a sequel to Blade Runner, which later became the feature film Blade Runner 2049, together with the development and production of the Netflix animated series Beat Bugs, based on the music from The Beatles.

Miller said that he is “looking forward to the opportunity to deliver more of the standout content for which the company is globally renowned,” at the new firm which will join Cineflix Media prodctuon stablemates including Cineflix Studios (Tehran, Reginald The Vampire) and Cineflix Productions (American Pickers, Air Crash Investigation).

The group also includes joint venture companies such as C3 Media (So Long, Marianne, Good Morning Chuck) and Buccaneer (The Burning Girls, The Doll Factory) and creative partnerships such as with December Films (Carpe Demon, Wynonna Earp).

Salzman said that launching a Cineflix base in Vancouver will “open up opportunities to increase our production capabilities and also provide a valuable, ideally positioned co-production hub for our creative partners in Canada, the West Coast of the US, and beyond.”
