Bill McGoldrick exits Chernin Entertainment amid layoffs at US prodco
Bill McGoldrick, EVP of film & TV at Chernin Entertainment, is among several execs reportedly being laid off from the US production company.
The staff cuts come as part of cost cutting moves as company chief Peter Chernin looks to build up his The North Road Company, which hired Former Showtime scripted chief Amy Israel as president of television last week, according to Deadline, which first reported the exits.
McGoldrick joined Chernin Entertainment in 2021 having previously served as president of original content at NBU Entertainment Networks and DTC, a role he took up in 2019 that saw him lead originals for Peacock as well as cablenet duo, Syfy and USA.
The other exits at Chernin Entertainment are reported to include SVP of film & TV Juan Alfonso, the former Starz and Disney exec who joined in 2021, and creatives executives Ian Smith and Jordan Compton.
Chernin Entertainment is part of the The North Road Company, which was formed in July 2022, with backing from US private equity firms Providence Equity Partners and Apollo, with its first move being the $200m acquisition of Red Arrow Studios’ North American production firms.
Alongside its scripted labels, The North Road Company also houses Love Is Blind and Married At First Sight prodco Kinetic Content, as well as 44 Blue Productions, which was behind A&E’s Wahlburgers and Fox’s First Responders Live. It is also home to Half Yard Productions, which produces Say Yes To The Dress for TLC, Dorsey Pictures and Left/Right, whose output includes FX and Hulu doc, Framing Britney Spears.
