QYOU Media appoints TikTok alum Raj Mishra to oversee Indian operations
Mumbai-based QYOU Media has apppointed former TikTok exec Raj Mishra as group CEO of the company’s Indian operations.
Taking on the role with immediate effect, Mishra will be responsible for overseeing all business units as the India and US-based company pushes further into digital distribution and a direct to consumer strategy in India.
Mishra has served on QYOU Media’s board of directors since May 2023 and is credited as the first employee and country head for Musical.ly in India, and also following its acquisition by TiKTok.
Under his leadership, Musical.ly became the most downloaded app on Android and iOS app stores. Mishra also oversaw the rebranding transition from Musical.ly to TikTok after its acquisition in 2017 after which it became one of the most downloaded apps in India with 610 million downloads in less than three years.
In 2019, he joined ByteDance and helped it to grow in India, establishing local teams, cultivating business partnerships, and nurturing the creator community. He also served as the country GM and India head of video-sharing social network service Triller and was most recently a consultant for digital and gaming companies including QYOU’s India business units.
“We are thrilled to have Raj on board to direct the next phase of growth for our businesses in India. Working with him as a consultant to QYOU India over the last several months, it became clear to me and the board that his skill set and experience were directly applicable to our overall business objective to become a larger brand with more direct to consumer initiatives in India,” said QYOU Media CEO and co-founder, Curt Marvis.
“This includes our most recent launch of the new freemium version of Q GamesMela. In addition, Raj’s understanding and knowledge of how the creator economy works, as a result of his roles at both Musical.ly and TikTok are invaluable for us as we build a creator centric brand and business.”
