Netflix has surpassed 15 million global monthly active users of its ad-supported tier one year on since launch.

The milestone comes as the streamer continues to try to enhance its offering for consumers and advertisers.

Next week Netflix will make downloads for offline viewing available on the plan for the first time. Netflix is so far the only major ad-supported streamer to offer downloads.

Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s president of advertising, said that the streamer has “built an incredible foundation, focusing on areas advertisers told us matter most, all while delivering unmissable entertainment at an unbeatable value.”

In related news, the streamer has acquired eight superhero films from Warner Bros. Discovery’s (WBD) DC Expanded Universe (DCEU) as the US giant makes a signifcant return to third-party licensing.

The titles, including Man Of Steel, The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, will launch on Netflix on 1 December. That major studios are once again selling to Netflix is a clear indication that they are moving past the direct-to-consumer strategy.
