BBC Studios to roll out NHU content via new pact with social media app WeAre8

Planet Earth

BBC Studios (BBCS) has partnered with WeAre8 on a ‘first of its kind’ deal that will see BBC Earth content appearing on the social media app.

The three-year deal starts next year and marks WeAre8’s first pact with a broadcaster, with more than 100 clips per year being released via the app, of which at least one third will be newly packaged BBC Earth content.

BBC Earth will be providing a mixture of content covering nature, adventure, science and space, taken from BBC Natural History Unit shows such as Planet Earth, Seven Worlds One Planet and Frozen Planet, as well as digital-first original series and impact campaigns including Coexistence, Planet Fix and Our Frozen Planet.

Jasmine Dawson, SVP of digital from BBCS, said: “Our two brands are aligned in our values and offer wide-ranging views of the world often through the lens of climate change, conservation and sustainability. We hope the content we provide will educate as well as entertain the community as well as encourage new partners into our digital business.”

WeAre8 pays users to watch brand videos, with a portion of advertising revenue going to the viewer. This can be withdrawn or paid to a charity.
