The UK’s BBC has greenlit a third run of hit format The Traitors, ahead of the launch of its second season.

The psychological reality competition show sees 22 strangers play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust, in the hope of winning up to £120,000 ($146,000).

The BBC claimed that the first season of the show reached an audience across all mediums of 21 million, becoming its biggest brand new entertainment launch since 2021.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, said the third season would be “a thrilling ride for both avid fans and newcomers.”

The Traitors was created in the Netherlands by All3Media’s IDTV and is further developed with the RTL Creative Unit, debuting on RTL4.

All3Media International sells format rights globally, while All3’s Studio Lambert produces in the UK.

The IP has become a key property for the BBC, which also offers the US and Australian versions of the format on its iPlayer streamer.
