News round-up: The CW to end ‘Superman & Lois’; Hulu extends ‘Futurama’; ‘Letterkenny’ to conclude with S12

Superman & Lois

The CW to end ‘Superman & Lois’

The CW Network is bringing Superman & Lois to a close with a fourth and final season of the superhero drama.

Based on characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the series followed the adventures of Superman (aka Clark Kent) and Lois Lane as they contended with both supervillain threats and life as parents.

Originally conceived as part of The CW’s now defunct Arrowverse, before ploughing its own furrow, and starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, the show is to wrap up with a 10-part season next year.

The series is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Todd Helbing, Sarah Schechter, Brent Fletcher, and Geoff Johns.

“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment, The CW Network.

Hulu extends ‘Futurama’

Adult animation Futurama has been renewed for two more seasons at Hulu.

The long-running show has been picked up for a further 20 episodes by the US streamer, after its revival earlier this year.

The Matt Groening comedy from 20th Television Animation follows the story of Philip J Fry, a man from the 20th century who is frozen and wakes up in the 31st century.

Originally debuting in 1999 on Fox, the show was cancelled in 2003, before a revival on Comedy Central from 2008 to 2013 and then its latest return on Hulu this year after a decade away from screens.

Letterkenny

‘Letterkenny’ to conclude with S12

Canadian comedy Letterkenny is to conclude with its upcoming 12th season on Crave in Canada and Hulu in the US next month.

The final six episodes will all land on Crave on Christmas Day, followed by Hulu on Boxing Day.

Created by and starring Jared Keeso, and produced by New Metric Media, the half-hour comedy is set in a small, rural Canadian town and the constant feuds between the three dominant groups in town – the hicks, the skids and the hockey players.
