Doc streamer MagellanTV & French prodco ZED extend factual output deal

Amazon Women Warriors

Global documentary streaming service MagellanTV and French unscripted producer and distributor ZED have struck a new multi-year production output deal.

The pact builds upon the existing agreement between the two companies that was first struck in 2016 and has so far seen more than 20 factual titles come to MagellanTV, including feature doc Amazon Women Warriors, which launched this week.

MagellanTV is making Amazon Women Warriors available to watch for free, including for non-subscribers, until 12 October.

Produced by ZED and directed by Alexandra Barbot and Véronique Préault, the film follows international experts as they embark on an archaeological expedition to uncover the truth behind the mythical female fighters.

Combining field research, dramatic re-enactments and in-depth interviews with scholars and scientists, the documentary uncovers who these women were and attempts to answer if they really existed.

“Our platform caters to those looking for content that goes beyond the surface and dives deep into different subjects; ZED specializes in producing high-quality documentaries that do just that,” said MagellanTV MD Greg Diefenbach.

ZED, which is also behind titles such as Destination Moon: The New Space Age and Wild Treasures Of China, recently acquired factual indie Point du Jour – Les Films du Balibari, the firm behind France 2 true crime hit l’Affaire d’Outreau, as exclsuivley revealed by TBI.
