Paramount+ extends music docs with Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC boy band show
Paramount+ is expanding its music output and its relationship with US-based Gunpowder & Sky by ordering a new documentary that explores boy bands, with the exec behind New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC set to feature.
The as-yet untitled doc is being produced by music manager Johnny Wright, who was behind the three boy bands during the 1990s and 2000s, and Gunpowder & Sky CEO Van Toffler.
The show will dig into the trials and tribulations surrounding the boy band industry, with Tamra Davis (Rock-CB4) set to direct. MTV Entertainment Studios produces in partnership with Gunpowder & Sky
The documentary will feature new interviews and material, along with archival concert footage, unaired interviews and clips that feature original members, songwriters, producers, managers, family members and fans.
Bruce Gillmer, Parsmount’s music chief, said the show would “harness the magic and nostalgia this golden age of boy band culture continues to elicit for the legions of fans across generation and the world.”
Paramount+ and Gunpowder & Sky have been behind recent releases I Wanna Rock: The 80’s Metal Dream and Sometimes When We Touch.
