Sony LIV in India has debuted a local remake of Dark Money, the BBC One drama that aired in 2019 and explores how the family of a young boy takes a pay-off after it emerges he has suffered abuse on set by a renowned producer.
The six-part Indian show, known as Kafas, is being produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Madiba Entertainment.
Dark Money was originally produced by All3Media’s The Forge, with sales arm All3Media International selling format rights.
Applause, which is the content studio belonging the Aditya Birla Group, is led by Sameer Nair and has previously adapted scripted formats Hostages, Your Honor, Call My Agent and Fauda.
The company has also partnered with BBCS on a local remake of Criminal Justice and Rudra – The Edge of Darkness, which is an adaptation of Neil Cross’ detective show Luther.
It has also worked with All3 on Masoom, the Indian adaptation of Irish drama Blood for Disney+ Hotstar, as well as Zee 5’s Mithya, the local version of Two Brothers Pictures’ show Cheat.
The news comes three months since Jaenani Netra joined All3 from Hi-5 Operations to become VP of sales Asia.
