RTL Germany to clean up ‘The Block’ with Good Times adapting Banijay renovation format

Wettkampf In 4 Wänden – Die Ultimative Bau-Challenge (aka The Block Germany)

RTL Germany has ordered a local adaptation of Banijay’s renovation format The Block, to be titled Wettkampf In 4 Wänden – Die Ultimative Bau-Challenge.

Produced by Good Times, part of Banijay Germany, the format is a renovation-based competition reality show, in which four couples compete in order to turn an unloved apartment into a high-end property – and impress an expert jury. Eva Brenner will host.

The Block was originally produced for Australia’s Nine Network, where it has aired more than 800 episodes to date, with its 18th-season finale the most-watched unscripted show on the network in 2022, according to Banijay.

Banijay holds the global distribution rights to the format and finished tape for the show, which has already been adapted in 14 territories including New Zealand, Belgium, the Netherlands, the US, and Denmark.

Founded in Berlin in 1998 by Sylvia Fahrenkrog-Petersen, production company Good Times has developed and produced formats for the German audience, with credits including Mein Lokal, Dein Lokal – Der Profi Kommt, Armes Deutschland and Home Of The Year.

Shona Fraser, managing director of Good Times, said: “We love The Block – it’s such a strong format and we can’t wait to bring it to RTL in Germany with our own special reality twist.”

Lucas Green, chief content officer, operations, at Banijay added: “Banijay has a strong record in creating must-watch competition reality shows and we are sure with Good Times’ expertise, the German audience is bound to be engrossed in the transformations.”
