BBC Two & PBS track down NHU’s six-parter ‘Big Cats 24/7’

Big Cats 24/7

BBC Two in the UK and PBS in the US have linked up on a Natural History Unit (NHU) six-parter about big cats in Africa, while the British broadcaster has also ordered a wildlife special from UK prodco Hello Halo.

Big Cats 24/7 (6 x 60-minutes) is from the NHU and takes viewers into the Okavango Delta in Botswana, where big cat behaviour can be witnessed that is almost entirely free from human influence.

It will be available via BBC Two and iPlayer, as well as PBS, which is attached as a co-production partner.

Orphan, meanwhile, is from Hello Halo and provides access to the Sheldrick’s Wildlife Trust’s neo-natal orphanage in Kenya, exploring an ambitious three-year project looking at the intimate relationship between a young elephant and its keeper.

It is being supported by Screen Scotland and The Chantecaille Conservation Foundation, with Daniel Bogado (9/11: One Day In America) directing.

Both shows are commissioned by Sreya Biswas, BBC’s head of natural history, who unveiled the shows at Wildscreen Nairobi.

“Working with some of the continent’s most trusted experts and accomplished cinematographers, we hope to create programmes about African animals that reach a new level of authenticity and diversity,” Biswas said.
