South Africa’s SABC searches for CEO as Madoda Mxakwe after five years

Madoda Mxakwe

Madoda Mxakwe has stepped down as CEO at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

Mxakwe had been in charge of the South African organisation for five years but will depart 30 June when his current conatrct expires.

The exec, who is the first SABC Group CEO to complete his contract in over 15 years, was appointed in July 2018 and helped to secure the broadcaster’s future following issues around governance, corruption and mismanagement.

Mxakwe also helped to improve SABC’s financial position, although the government-owned broadcaster said late last year that its revenues were more than 25% below its annual budget.

A successor for Mxakwe has not been named, but Nada Wotshela has been appointed for the interim. Mxakwe’s next move is not known.
