Nelonen investigates ‘Murder In Hanko’ from Banijay’s Jarowskij Finland
Finnish broadcaster Nelonen and its streaming service Ruutu have greenlit Murder In Hanko, a new scripted series based on author Matti Remes’ Ruben Waara novels.
Produced by Banijay Nordic scripted label Jarowskij Finland, the 10-part series is written by Eriikka Etholén-Paju and directed by Aleksi Mäkelä, for premiere in spring 2024. Banijay Rights will handle international sales.
The series, set against the backdrop of picturesque Finnish coastal town of Hanko, revolves around the enigmatic character of Ruben Waara, portrayed by Matti Ristinen. A charismatic but somewhat aimless bachelor who recently turned 50, Ruben sells his company and returns to his hometown in Hanko for the summer.
Things take a turn when Ruben’s estranged daughter Vera, played by Mimosa Willamo, a dedicated police officer in Hanko, finds herself entangled in a murder investigation on the very day of Ruben’s arrival.
Jarowskij Finland is also behind returning crime series Detective Maria Kallio, five seasons of comedy series Onnela, as well as feature film series Jill and Joy.
“Murder In Hanko is a story of familial bonds as the father-daughter duo untangles the mysterious murder, uncovering secrets and delving into the intriguing power dynamics of Hanko’s influential families,” said exec producer Teea Hyytiä.
