Entertainment One to shop Australian true crime docuseries ‘The Black Hand’
Entertainment One (eOne) has secured the international distribution rights (excluding Australia and Scandinavia) to true crime docuseries The Black Hand.
Originally produced by Wildbear Entertainment for ABC in Australia, the three-part series follows actor Anthony LaPaglia (Without A Trace) as he unravels an era of extortion, arson, kidnap, mayhem and murder by The Black Hand, Italian criminals targeting their migrant countrymen in Australia’s deep north.
Across a decade of bloodshed through the rise of Italian fascism and a looming world war, a besieged Italian population finds the courage to battle old world ways and grasps the opportunity to thrive.
“The Black Hand is truly the definition of premium factual,” said Kate Cundall, VP of acquisitions at eOne. “We’re very excited about the opportunity to take to market a hugely popular genre like true crime with some amazing auspicious.”
The series is executive produced by Alan Erson, LaPaglia and Michael Tear and produced by Adam Grossetti and Kate Pappas, directed by Kriv Stenders and written by Grossetti, Stenders and Anya Beyersdorf.
Wildbear is the firm behind titles such as feature documentary Playing With Sharks and biopic Brock: Over the Top.
The Black Hand joins an unscripted offering at eOne that also includes Inside China, Fearless: The Women Fighting Putin and I’m An Alcoholic: Inside Recovery.
