Telefilm Canada recruits NFB chief as new CEO

Julie Roy

Telefilm Canada has appointed Julie Roy as executive director and CEO.

Roy arrives at the Canadian government-owned corporation from the National Film Board (NFB) of Canada, where she has served as director general and programming chief officer.

She will take over the role for a five-year term on 3 April, roughly a year since Christa Dickenson announced her departure from the position.

Dickenson exited in September after more than four years in the role, with Francesca Accinelli, Telefilm’s VP of promotions, communications and international relations, taking up the position on an interim basis until a full-time replacement was appointed.

“The country’s digital landscape is in a state of change and the challenges ahead are significant and exciting. There are opportunities ahead of us. We must seize them in order to increase the influence of our talent and our industry,” said Roy.

“In this context, Telefilm Canada’s mission will be more relevant than ever. I will undertake my mandate by relying on the skills of our teams and the mobilisation of our industry partners.”
