Starz to conclude ‘Outlander’, greenlights prequel ‘Blood Of My Blood’

Outlander

US network Starz has ordered an eighth and final season of fantasy drama series Outlander and given the greenlight to its spin-off prequel Outlander: Blood Of My Blood.

Both shows will be available on Starz streamer Lionsgate+ in the UK, Australia, Latin America, including Brazil, and across all Starz platforms in the US and Canada.

Debuting on Starz in 2014 and based on the novel series by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander tells the story of Claire Randall (Catrionia Balfe), a former military nurse from 1945 who is transported back in time to 1743. Its 10-part final season will air in summer.

The spin-off, Outlander: Blood Of My Blood, which entered development last summer, will meanwhile follow the love story of the parents of Outlander character Jamie Fraser. The 10-part prequel hails from Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis, who also serve as executive producers of the original series.

Moore and Davis developed Outlander for television, under their production banner Tall Ship Productions. Story Mining & Supply Company will also executive produce the new spin-off, and Diana Gabaldon will serve as a consulting producer. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Blood Of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain,” siad Roberts, who will serve as showrunner.

“For nearly a decade Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion,” added Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz.
