Ink Factory & Beach House prep Cleopatra Wong

London and LA-based The Ink Factory (The Night Manager) has teamed with Blue Ant Media’s Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo-based Beach House Pictures for a TV adaptation of Cleopatra Wong.

The deal sees The Ink Factory acquiring adaptation rights to create a series, which will be co-written by Chinese-American writer Tasha Huo (Red Sonja) and Thai-British writer Chris Cornwell (A Discovery of Witches).

Created by Filipino writer/director Bobby Suarez, Cleopatra Wong was the star of a series of films made in Singapore in the late 1970s. The new series will be set in 21st Century Singapore and will be sold by Ffith Season.

The Ink Factory recently set up an Asia slate and associated financing facility, which aims both to deliver adaptations of John le Carré’s work into Asia and to tap into the work of talent and creators from the region. The venture has been established with the support and collaboration of Hong Kong and London-based media investment firm 127 Wall Productions.

Principal buys into Chesler/Perlmutter Prods

LA-based distributor Principal Media has invested in Toronto-based Chesler/Perlmutter Productions (C/P).

Principal will grow its catalogue via the deal, while C/P will expand development and production of original films and series targeting the holiday, romance, action, sci-fi and suspense genres.

The agreement is also aimed at expanding the potential of existing IP, with format sales and FAST channels featuring exclusive content and series.

The deal’s financial specifics were not revealed but Principal described its investment as “significant”.
